LPTHE-ORSAY 96/79 hep-ph/9610257 Neutrino mass models with an abelian family symmetry

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Abelian family symmetries provide a predictive framework for neutrino mass models. In seesaw models based on an abelian family symmetry, the structures of the Dirac and the Majorana matrices are derived from the symmetry, and the neutrino masses and mixing angles are determined by the lepton charges under the family symmetry. Such models can lead to mass degeneracies and large mixing angles as well as mass hierarchies, the squared mass di erence between quasi-degenerate neutrinos being determined by the symmetry. We present two models illustrating this approach. To appear in the proceedings of the NATO ASI on Masses of Fundamental Particles, Carg ese, France, August 5-17, 1996. We study gaugino condensation in presence of an anomalous U(1) gauge group and find that global supersymmetry is dynamically broken. An example of particular interest is provided by effective string models with 4dimensional Green-Schwarz anomaly cancellation mechanism. The structure of the hidden sector is constrained by the anomaly cancellation conditions and the scale of gaugino condensation ...

The thermal average of the Polyakov line is non-zero at high temperature. It has been suggested that its phase could be relevant for baryogenesis within the standard model, providing a source of spontaneously broken CP violation. This scenario suffers from a causal domain problem which cannot be cured by inflation: quantum fluctuations in de Sitter space overwhelm the periodicity of the potenti...

Once chosen the dynamics in one frame, for example the rest frame, the Bakamjian and Thomas method allows to define relativistic quark models in any frame. These models have been shown to provide, in the heavy quark limit, fully covariant current form factors as matrix elements of the quark current operator. They also verify the Isgur-Wise scaling and give a slope parameter ρ > 3/4 for all the ...

The fading of symmetry non-restoration at finite temperature

The fate of symmetries at high temperature determines the dynamics of the very early universe. It is conceivable that temperature effects favor symmetry breaking instead of restoration. Concerning global symmetries, the non-linear sigma model is analyzed in detail. For spontaneously broken gauge symmetries, we propose the gauge boson magnetic mass as a “flag” for symmetry (non)-restoration. We ...

On the strongly coupled heterotic string

We analyze in detail the anomaly cancellation conditions for the strongly coupled E8×E8 heterotic string introduced by Horava and Witten and find new features compared to the ten-dimensional Green-Schwarz mechanism. We project onto ten dimensions the corresponding Lagrangian of the zeromode fields. We find that it has a simple interpretation provided by the conjectured heterotic string/fivebran...
